Contribution of the Army Civil Staff members in the Humantarian Operation praised

4088 members of the Civil Staff of the Army have been awarded with ’North-East Humanitarian Operation Medal’ for their contribution in the operation, the Media Unit of the Army said. The medals were symbolically awarded to a group of 100 members of the Civil Staff of the Army at a special ceremony held at Army Headquarters today(2). Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya graced the occasion as the chief guest.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces inaugurated the award of the ‘North-East Humanitarian Operation Medal’ on December 14, 2010 as a gesture of recognition of the roles of both War Heroes and members of the Army civil staff.
