Government and opposition parties in parliament are planning to show their strength

The ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance and opposition parties in parliament are taking steps to show their strength in parliament on next Thursday evening. Government will present the motion of Vote of Account to the parliament tomorrow. After three days debate, vote will take place 4.oo pm on 5th Thursday. At the present, the government as support of 127 members. The entire opposition parties in parliament have the strength of 96 members. It include 22 Tamil National Alliance MPs also. Some of the TNA MPs are out of country in these days. Senior parliamentarian of TNA said they have already asked these MPs to come back to the country and participate in the voting. Meanwhile, another interesting development is taking place in TNA camp. Some of the TNA Mps want to take nutral stand in the voting of Vote on Account. They said the money is askling for vote on account is going to use day to day activities and on going development projects in the northern and eastern provinces. They argue if we vote against the motion, then the government can say that we are against our people. TNA parliament group is going to meet before Thursday evening and thye hope to take final decision on that meeting.
Meanwhile, the signing of the agreement on United National Party led opposition alliance will take place at the committee room in parliamentary complex tomorrow. UNP sources say several parties and groups have already pledged their support for this alliance.
