Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna is now taking steps to talk to political parties for a common candidate at the next presidential election. JVP parliamentary group leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said party’s central committee approved the proposal to support a common candidate who is acceptable to all parties.

In this process, JVP is going to have a discussion with United National Party. This is the JVP’s history that they are going to have an official discussion with UNP. He said the main objective of this is to abolish the executive presidency.

Meanwhile, President Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday held a meeting with Sri Lanka Freedom Party district leaders and heads of the political parties that are in the ruling coalition to discuss strategies for the major election campaign.
