England U19s face to a nine-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka U19s in the first Twenty20 international at Durham’s Riverside Ground on Monday. England won the toss and elected to bat first in Chester-le-Street but Luke Wells’s fourth-ball dismissal for three set the tone for the evening.

Fellow opener Jack Manuel topped scored on 23, to edge out Adam Rossington by one run. Joe Root and Ateeq Javid were the only other England batsmen to reach double figures, on 10 and 14 respectively, as the hosts were all out for 107 from 18.3 overs.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Ramith Rambukwella raced to an opening-wicket partnership of 75 before Rambukwella was bowled by Adam Ball for 36. Rajapaksa went on to claim his half century (54), with Yasoda contributing 14 as the visitors cruised to victory with more than six overs to spare-JNW
