Ten Candidates To Contest Next Presidential Election

At the moment President Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Army chief General Sarath Fonseka, Dr. Wickremabahu Karunarathne and Sirithunga Jayasuriya are to contest the presidential election.
According to the recent amendments of election laws if registered political parties do not participate in active politics would lose their registration. Due to the recent amendment several registered political parties which do not in active politics are to contest the presidential election. Accepting of nomination for this election will take place 17th of December this month.
