UNP, JVP Still Undecided On General Elections

The United National Party and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna are now having discussions regarding the contesting of upcoming parliamentary election. UNP insists they want to contest next parliamentary election under the their symbol of elephant. At the moment, JVP is not in favour of this proposal. Senior leader of the JVP says “we are now considering the option open to us. He further said party will take a decision considering the present political situation. Last presidential election UNP and JVP contest under the swan symbol.
Meanwhile, government partner EPDP says they will contest the next parliamentary election under their symbol. At present EPDP has one seat in parliament. Eastern province chief minister’s political party TMVP is to finalise their decision on Saturday. The Tamil National Alliance is to contest alone this time.
