Michael Jackson’s musical legacy will undoubtedly live on for all future generations. Now a group of scientists are making sure that the King of Pop’s name goes down as in prehistoric significance as well.
A new-found species of ancient hermit crabs was recently named after the singer, not because it had a particularly unusual Moondance-like walking style, but because it was discovered on the day that he died.
There is now a type of crab named Mesoparapylocheles michaeljacksoni, insuring that the singer will not just be examined for his dance moves.
The now-famous crab was discovered by a group of international scientists on June 25, 2009- the day when Jackson died.
The team were celebrating their find in a restaurant in Alsasua, Spain when they saw news of his passing on a nearby television. ’Michael Jackson’s music will no doubt live a very long time and influence many people so I think the name is appropriate,’ said Adiel Klompmaker, one of the scientists involved in the discovery.

A “smart” internet-connected television that has the ability to have its hardware upgraded every year has been unveiled by Samsung. The device has a slot at which allows new kit to be added to boost processing performance and add new features.
The innovation may help reassure shoppers concerned about their screen becoming outdated.
The move is aimed at helping the South Korean tech giant retain its lead as the world’s best-selling TV maker.

Final total lunar eclipse of this year will occur today(10), the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies said. It will begin at 5.03 p.m. and will end at 11.00 p.m. Sri Lankan public will also be able to witness the eclipse in total, partial and penumbral forms. The total eclipse will occur at 8.02 pm. It can be viewed by the naked eye and using the telescopes as well.

Astronomers have confirmed the existence of an Earth-like planet in the “habitable zone” around a star not unlike our own. The planet, Kepler 22-b, lies about 600 light-years away and is about 2.4 times the size of Earth, and has a temperature of about 22C.
It is the closest confirmed planet yet to one like ours – an “Earth 2.0″.
However, the team does not yet know if Kepler 22-b is made mostly of rock, gas or liquid.
During the conference at which the result was announced, the Kepler team said that it had spotted some 1,094 new candidate planets.
The Kepler space telescope was designed to look at a fixed swathe of the night sky, staring intently at about 150,000 stars. The telescope is sensitive enough to see when a planet passes in front of its host star, dimming the star’s light by a minuscule amount.
Kepler identifies these slight changes in starlight as candidate planets, which are then confirmed by further observations by Kepler and other telescopes in orbit and on Earth.

Dev Anand, the ‘Evergreen Romantic Superstar’ of Indian cinema, has passed away in London on Saturday night following cardiac arrest. He was 88.
Dev Anand, who had come to London for medical check up, was not keeping well for the last few days, family sources told PTI. His son Sunil was with him when he breathed last.
Dev Anand made his debut as an actor in 1946 in Hum Ek Hain. By the time his Ziddi was released in 1947 he was a superstar and has never looked back.
Versatile Dev Anand has given countless hits like Paying Guest, Baazi, Jewel Thief,CID, Johny Mera Naam, Amir Garib, Warrant, Hare Rama Hare Krishna and Des Pardes.
For his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, Dev Anand was honoured with the prestigious the ‘Padma Bhushan’ in 2001 and ‘Dada Saheb Phalke Award’ in 2002.
He established his film production company ‘Navketan International Films’ in 1949 and has produced more than 35 movies.
Dev Anand has won two Filmfare Awards in 1958 for his performance in the film Kala Paani and in 1966 for his performance in Guide.
Guide went on to win Filmfare Awards in five other categories including “Best Film” and “Best Director” and was sent as India’s entry for the Oscars in the foreign film category that year.
He co-produced the English Version of Guide named The Good Earth with Nobel Laureate Pearl S. Buck.
In 1993, he received Filmfare “Lifetime Achievement Award” and in 1996 he received a Screen Videocon “Lifetime Achievement Award“.

Jacqueline Fernandez, who is currently in Sri Lanka shooting for an ad campaign, is all set to sign her first Sri Lankan film. A source close to the actress says, “She is in Colombo shooting an ad for an international food brand. While there, she got offered a Sinhalese film.”
Budgets for Sri Lankan movies are quite small compared to Bollywood, and an actor there is paid around US $1,000 for a full-fledged role. “Since Jackie gets paid very well in Bollywood, the director and producer offered to pay her US $10,000 for the part. It’s too small an amount for Jackie, as she can make the same amount through appearances in India. But since the role is a cameo and she wants to do something in Sri Lanka, Jackie has decided to do the role for free.”
Jacqueline’s business manager confirms the development, “Yes, Jackie has been approached to do a Sri Lankan film. It is the country’s most expensive film till date and they plan to spend four times more on the budget. Jackie wants to do the film only because she wants to give something back to SL. It’s just one scene but they want to promote it as her first film there. After the Sri Lankan cricketers, Jackie is the most popular face there.” One of Sri Lanka’s biggest rock band, Bathiya & Santhush, has composed a song for the film and the makers want Jacqueline to be a part of the song too. “Though Jackie is very keen to do the film, currently we are working out the dates.”

Previously unseen footage of Michael Jackson’s 1993 “Dangerous” tour, which had been expected to fetch 4-5 million pounds ($6.2-7.8 million) failed to sell at auction in Britain on Saturday. “At this stage it has not sold,” said a spokesman for The Fame Bureau auctioneers, who specialize in pop memorabilia. “We are still talking to people, but online it did not sell.”
He said he was confident a buyer would be found, although “nothing is a certainty.”
The auction house said it had been forced to remove a brief clip of the video from its website before the online auction after Jackson’s record label made a “copyright claim.”
The fact that a successful buyer may not be able to use the film for commercial purposes may have dampened demand given the hefty asking price, but the spokesman played down the copyright dispute.
“I don’t think that was a problem at all,” he said, adding that any serious potential buyer would be fully aware of the issue.
Nearly two hours long, the footage was shot by Jackson’s own production crew and meant to be an intimate portrait of Jackson on tour.
But the singer was unhappy with the quality and gave the only copy to his driver, who was now trying to sell the footage, the auction house said.
It was made during Jackson’s “Dangerous” tour in 1993 at a stop in Argentina.

The National Performing Arts Theatre constructed at the Nomands Ground in Colombo 07, will be open to public from January 2012, Minister of Cultural Affairs T.B. Ekanayake said.
Construction of the Theatre began in May 2008 and the total cost of the project was Rs. 3,080 million. Forty percent of the total cost of the project was provided by the Chinese government as a grant.
This five-storeyed building complex has a floor area of 14,000 square metres. The Lotus Pond in Polonnaruwa has given inspiration to the architecture of this theatre.
The theatre is equipped with ultra modern facilities such as an auditorium with 1,288 seats, parking facilities for 500 vehicles, library and training facilities. Also there will be facilities to conduct educational and research activities.

The box office is lifeless no more: “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” opened to $139.5 million domestically this weekend, according to studio data.
The fourth of Summit’s vampire-and-werewolf movies had the franchise’s second best three-day opening ever, behind 2009′s “New Moon” ($142.8 million in November 2009).
For a box office that’s down about 3.5 percent from last year, “Breaking Dawn” is only the second movie this year, including the summer’s final “Harry Potter” film, to open to more than $100 million. (There were four $100 million openers last year.)
And it had the third-best opening Friday ever, grossing $71.4 million — behind only this year’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2″ and “New Moon.”
“Breaking Dawn’s” international numbers were as strong as its domestic ones. The movie grossed $144 million in 54 territories, giving it a worldwide box office total of $283.5 million in just three days. The movie cost about $110 million to make, after tax rebates.
While “Breaking Dawn” almost exactly matched its pre-release predictions, the animated penguins of Warner Bros.’ “Happy Feet Two” grossed only $22 million, according to studio estimates — enough to rank the movie No. 2 this weekend, but still a disappointing performance. The movie was projected to open to about $30 million.
Relativity Media’s “Immortals,” meanwhile, grossed $12.2 million in its second weekend of release — a 62 percent drop. It is No. 3 at the box office.

2011 Korean film festival will be held at the National Film Corporation theater from December 5 to 9. Each film will be screened at 7 p.m. every day. The film ‘Highway Star’ will be screened on the opening day(5). Christmas in August, Lifting King Kong, Memento Mori and Happy Life will be screened on the other four days respectively.
