Construction Of Nugegoda Flyover To Start This Month-Ministry Official

Construction of a flyover at Nugegoda, Colombo will start on September 29, an official from the Ministry of Highways said.

The project, with funding from the Government of the United Kingdom, will be completed in two phases. In the first phase two out of four lanes of the flyover on High Level Road will be completed during the first three months. The project cost is estimated at Sterling Pounds four million, the official said.

Mount-Lavinia Explosion Causes Only Minor Damage To Rail Track-Police

An explosion in Mount Lavinia Colombo on Wednesday caused only minor damage to the rail track near De Saram Road, a Police official said.

The explosion took place around 7.40pm. No people were hurt or property damaged. Police later said the explosion was caused by a suspected improvised explosive device (IED), adding two trains which were due at that time may have been targeted.

Air Force Bombs LTTE’s Main Intelligence Headquarters-SLAF

Air Force jets engaged LTTE’s main intelligence headquarters one kilometer west of Kilinochchi on Wednesday, the Air Force said.

Air Force Spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanaykkara said offensive raids were carried out at 6.45am this morning.

The site is considered to be one frequently visited by the LTTE’s intelligence wing leader Pottu Amman, Defence Ministry sources said, adding a high profile LTTE gathering was taking place at the site during the time of the attack.
