Mahela Jayawardene and Tillekaratne Dilshan are the only Sri Lankan players to attract the highest reserve price of US $400,000 ahead of the IPL players’ auction which is to be held in Bangalore on January 8 and 9. Altogether 21 players have been slotted in the highest bracket which includes West Indian legend Brian Lara who retired from international cricket four years ago and retired Australian great Adam Gilchrist.
Lasith Malinga who played for Mumbai Indians had earlier become the only Sri Lankan player among the 12 cricketers retained by their teams before the auction. Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara who skippered Kings XI Punjab in the last IPL tournament has been slotted in the second highest category which has a reserve price of US $ 300,000.
