Sri Lanka plans to hire a cruise liner to accommodate cricket World Cup fans and spectators at the newly built stadium in the island’s south, an official said. The six-million dollar stadium in Hambantota, President Mahinda Rajapakse’s hometown, lacks hotels to accommodate thousands of fans expected to watch the games in February-April next year.
The 43-day tournament will be played across 13 venues in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and ends with the final on April 2 at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium-JNW

Nuwan Kulasekera and Lasith Malinga shared seven wickets as Sri Lanka thumped New Zealand by seven wickets in a Twenty20 cricket international Sunday, leveling the two-match series at 1-1 in Florida on Sunday. Kulasekera took three wickets for four runs from three overs and Malinga four wickets for 12 runs as Sri Lanka dismissed New Zealand for 81 runs in 17.3 overs.
Nathan McCullum top-scored with an unbeaten 36 while captain Daniel Vettori added 27 for New Zealand. Tillakaratne Dilshan made an unbeaten 33 and Thisara Perera 24 as Sri Lanka reached its winning target after having three wickets down in the 16th over.
New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 29 runs on Saturday – the first major cricket international played in the United States. New Zealand – all out for 81 in 17.3 overs; Sri Lanka 86 for 3 wickets in 15.3 overs-JNW

Sri Lanka selectors have named several present and discarded national caps in the Sri Lanka A team’s one-month tour of Australia from June 10. The selectors picked two different squads for the tour, one to play in the two four-day ‘Tests’ and one 3-day warm-up game against the Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) and the other for the one-day matches.

A cricket team made up of Indian movie stars called “Bollywood Stars” which is captained by Shahrukh Khan will play a charity Twenty20 cricket match against Sri Lanka cricket team captained by Kumar Sangakkara at SSC grounds on June 4. The event will be held along with the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2010, to be held in Colombo on June 3–4.
The festivity would be added by the local and Indian singers who would be performing there and the fans would have an opportunity the rub shoulders with their favourite stars-JNW

India women’s beats Sri Lanka women’s to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament on the last day of fixtures at Warner Park while New Zealand rounded off its group stage of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 with a comfortable victory over Pakistan earlier in the day. Chasing 145 for victory after fifties from Sulakshana Naik and Mithali Raj, Sri Lanka stumbled to 73 for 9 in their 20 overs, with Diana David claiming 4 for 12 with her offspin.
After winning the toss, India were given a solid base by Naik and Poonam Raut, who added 34 for the first wicket before Raut was bowled for 12 by in the seventh over by Udeshika Prabhodhani. That brought Naik and Raj together, and they quickly put India in the ascendancy by adding 86 in 10.3 overs for the second wicket. Naik eventually fell for 59 from 54 balls with three overs remaining, and though Jhulan Goswami was run out for 10 in the final over, Raj kept up the impetus to finish unbeaten on 52 from 39 balls, with five fours.
