Kody Brown justified his decision to skip his daughter’s surgery in favor of attending a friend’s wedding. In a sneak look of Sunday’s episode shared by People , Kody Brown, star of TLC’s “Sister Wives,” attended a friend’s wedding while the COVID-19 outbreak was going on. His ex-wife Christine Brown has some strong sentiments about his choice because of how it affected her girls.

Christine revealed to the cameras during a solo interview that two of her children, who were still living at home with her at the time, learned of Kody’s activities from their half-siblings, the kids of Kody and his second wife, Janelle Brown.

She claimed that it infuriated her daughters since, months before, he had decided not to fly from Arizona to the east coast with Christine and their 19-year-old daughter Ysabel for Ysabel’s scoliosis surgery.

Christine addressed the cameras, looking extremely upset as she said, “Ysabel’s crushed, oh my word.” How can he explain officiating Brian’s wedding when he wouldn’t even attend my operation, she asks?

Kody provided a response in his own solo interview, which was featured in the People segment. He explained that if Ysabel hadn’t had the operation, he would have had to spend six to eight weeks away from home. “No man can remain away from work, home, and family for so long,” the saying goes.

He claimed, however, that he had just spent four days away from home for his friend’s wedding.
I’m mad now, what the hell? Christine spoke into the camera. You believe you can officiate your friend’s wedding while neglecting your own family?
Kody’s reply was directed at his ex-girlfriend rather than his daughter. Christine “protesteth too much,” he claimed.
She is making me out to be some sort of villain to justify herself, he continued.
In reaction, Christine remarked that she was relieved to be divorced from Kody because “I can no longer respect this person.”
Kody reacted by saying that Christine “needs a mirror up in her face” after likely hearing about her remarks from producers off-camera.

After more than 25 years of “spiritual” marriage, Christine and Kody announced their separation on Instagram in November 2021. Christine stated to People in August 2022 that Kody’s decision to skip Ysabel’s operation served as a “wake up call” that convinced her it was time to end their relationship. She referred to Kody’s decision, which fans saw him make in season 16 of “Sister Wives,” as “he destroyed my little girl’s heart.”

She said, “I truly find it hard to stay with a guy who I don’t respect.” We didn’t truly have a partnership, and I needed more communication and trust.

Viewers of “Sister Wives” had followed Ysabel for many years as she fought to treat her scoliosis without surgery.

In a confessional interview on the program during season 16, Ysabel commented of her father’s decision not to fly to be there for her operation in 2020, “I think his priorities are a little screwed up.”

TLC broadcasts “Sister Wives” on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.
