Elon Musk has replied to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-criticism Cortez’s of his proposal to charge Twitter users a monthly fee to maintain their verified accounts.

The New York Democrat tweeted on Tuesday night, “Lmao at a billionaire seriously attempting to sell folks on the concept that “free expression” is actually a $8/mo membership plan.”

Ocasio-Cortez was instructed to pay $8 by the new owner of Twitter, who thanked her for her input.

According to reports, Twitter was considering implementing a $20 monthly verification fee. Although Musk revealed the change in a thread earlier that day, he said that Twitter Blue, which costs $8 per month, would provide the “power to the people.”

Musk argued that Twitter’s present “lords and peasants” system for determining who has or does not have a blue checkmark is “bulls—-,” adding that the price would vary by nation.

Paying users will also see half as many advertisements, have priority in answers, mentions, and searches, and have access to submit lengthy videos and music.

There will be a “paywall bypass” for publishers “ready to collaborate with Twitter,” and Musk has stated that there will be a “secondary tag below the name for someone who is a prominent person.”

This would also provide Twitter with a source of income to compensate content producers, he added.
Both those with blue checks and those without have criticized the announcement.
