According to WLOS-TV, Bryce Evans, 23, was discovered dead on a secluded route in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Balsam Mountain in North Carolina on Friday shortly after 11 a.m.

According to a missing person poster for Evans, who was last seen on July 31, he was last seen hiking and camping in the Cherokee, North Carolina, region, according to FOX46.

His family confirmed to the publication that his cell phone ping-ed a phone tower in the Cherokee vicinity.

The 2017 grey Nissan Altima that belonged to Evan was discovered by park rangers at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday near Pin Oak Gap on Heintooga Ridge Road. His body was discovered 20 yards off-trail, 1.5 miles from the parking spot.

According to Scott Erland, a spokesman for the Knoxville Police Department, Evans did not check into his internship at the University of North Carolina, and his phone went directly to voicemail.

“TRECS Gym at UTK was where he planned to work out, and he said to his sister that he might go to Charlotte afterward. Bryce’s card apparently hasn’t been used at the gym, he didn’t sign up for his internship at UNC, and his phone only goes to voicemail “explained Erland.

Evans was an Eagle Scout, his sister reportedly stated in the report.
