A congressional delegation led by Pelosi is traveling to the Indo-Pacific region, making stops in Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan. According to a news statement from her office, the tour will focus on shared security, economic cooperation, and democratic governance in the Indo-Pacific region.
According to Pelosi’s statement in the release, “Today, our Congressional delegation goes to the Indo-Pacific to reaffirm America’s strong and unwavering commitment to our allies and friends in the region.”

Representatives Gregory Meeks of New York, Mark Takano of California, Suzan DelBene of Washington, Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois, and Andy Kim of New Jersey will be part of the congressional delegation.
President Joe Biden stated earlier this month that U.S. military experts thought Speaker Pelosi visiting Taiwan is “not a wise idea.” This announcement follows Biden’s statement.
Taiwan is seen by the People’s Republic of China as being on its soil. China has warned the United States against Pelosi visiting and has often deployed aircraft into Taiwanese airspace to test the area’s air defense system. She would visit the island county as the highest-ranking American representative to do so since 1997.
Biden received a phone call from Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday warning him not to “play with fire” in regards to Taiwan.

Despite not having formal relations with Taiwan, the United States has strengthened its interactions with the island and made an effort to deter China from occupying it.
The possibility of Pelosi visiting Taiwan has infuriated China, which has issued a warning that there will be consequences if she does. According to Chinese officials, Pelosi’s journey to Taiwan would be against the One China Policy and would amount to supporting an illegal uprising.
